Hi Mike,

I like to respond to some of your questions.

1)When using an image based disaster recovery solution like p2v, the patch level will be more out-dated depending on the time between the p2v action and the actual disaster.

When you bring the virtual (DR) machine online in case of a disaster you need to run Windows update to get your patch level current.

After major updates like Service packs, application updates or system configuration changes, you properly want to create a new P2v vhd-image of your physical machine.

2)In most cases you can plan your fallback. When you had to reset your computer account password, you will need to do this again during a fallback. In these cases it’s very important to remember your local administrator password.

3)The P2V hooks into the VSS (Volume Snapshot Service) and allows a conversion of a running physical machine. The Exchange or SQl Database will be in a consistent state. You will need your latest (DPM) SQL or Exchange backup to get your databases to the current version

4)The DPM agent will report to the DPM Server which its version. When the version is out-of-date, a warning will be displayed in the DPM administrative console on the Managing/agent tab allowing you to update the agent directly (no reboot required)
